Ok, now for part 2. Dragonhelm's excellent guide to Krynnspace should be read as well as this. Some of my ideas do differ a bit though. Peoples of Krynnspace ===================== IEN Krynnspace Fleet ==================== The Imperial Elvish Navy Krynnspace Fleet is largely crewed by Qualinesti elves, with a smaller number of Silvanesti who fill a disproportionate number of the upper ranks. There are some marine squads drawn from the Kagonesti elves of Chislev. Elves from other branches of the IEN can be transfered in, but Krynnspace is not a popular posting. There are unconfirmed reports of another race of elves, the Elinesti, who are said to dwell in Realmspace itself, and who can take on the form of a void-swimming creature, in the same way that the Dargonesti and Dimernesti can assume the forms of sea creatures (These are an elven form of Star Selkie). The IEN have a permanent base orbiting Chislev, and another near the Stellar Islands, they are rumoured to have constant patrols in the neighbourhood of Nezhmyth. The Minotaur League Fleet ========================= Of all the nations of Krynn, the Imperial League of Minotaurs has the most organised fleet. They have been in space for several centuries, starting with converted galleys and similar craft, and, more recently, progressing to specialised spelljamming craft. It is thought that the Minotaur League has established a colony in at least one other sphere. (As described in Dragonhelm's guide - but I might have pushed the timeline back a bit). Gnomoi and Minoi ================ Although lacking the organisation of the Minotaur League, the Gnomes of Krynn have launched many expeditions into space (with varying degrees of success) over the years, to the point that they are quite numerous in many of the neighbouring spheres. The great majority of successful expeditions were Gnomoi, from Taladas. At least one Gnomoi Sky Citadel (a flying mountain) was lost in space, and may still be wandering Krynnspace (or possibly further afield). (This differs from Dragonhelm's guide, but I jest see the Gnomes of Taladas being more capable of getting into space, partly because I think they have a greater population). Humanoids ========= The most numerous humanoids of Krynnspace are Goblins, originally employed by the Minotaur League as scouts, some Krynn goblins made contact with their spacefaring kin, and now a number of Goblin ships follow trade routes through Krynnspace (either as traders or pirates). Dragons ======= Dragonhelm's guide introduced the Dragonfleet, a spacefaring branch of Takhisis' dragonarmies. The most dangerous part of this fleet is its use of spaceflying dragons, who form a formidable contingent. The Dragonfleet are opposed by the Knights of Krynnspace (see Dragonhelms guide) who have recruited a number of younger good dragons to their cause. (One primary visual theme of Dragonlance is, of course, Knights riding Dragons and wielding Dragonlances - This just has to be extended into space - just look at the cover of Krynnspace itself). Others ====== Although no native lizardmen have independently gained access to wildspace, a number of outsider Lizardmen have attempted to uplift their Krynnspace cousins, with mixed success. There is at least one lizardman enclave on Chislev, where spacefaring lizardmen have started trading with a community of Bakali of that world. A number of Aperusa clans make Krynnspace their home, most are devout followers of Branchala, Habbakuk or more rarely Mishakal. All Umbras of Krynnspace Aperusa gain their spells as a priest of their deity, but are still restricted to the bard memorisation limits. It is said that at times of direst need, the most pious Beloved Grandfather or Grandmothers can call upon the aid of their deity, but at a great sacrifice. Aperusa clans of other spheres consider Krynnspace to be cursed, and will never venture into it. Relationships ============= There have been minor skirmishes between the IEN and the Minotaur League Fleet. And the IEN keeps a very close eye on any goblin ships they encounter, and have a 'no tolerance' policy towards any known or suspected goblin pirates. There have been some significant battles between the IEN and the Dragonfleet, while the Knights of Krynnspace battle the Dragonfleet on a regular basis. There are rumours that elements within the Knights have been making overtures to the IEN, or vice versa. -- Charles
