Subject: Re: Krynnspace- Constellations, Planets and Gods (long)
Over the past year there has been some discussion on updating and
improving published spheres, and earlier this year there was a lot of
talk concerning Krynnspace.

So I've decided to through my ideas into the ring, although I do not,
buy any means, consider myself a Dragonlance expert (I read the
original series of books, and played, irreverently, through the first
module, I also have access to various Dragonlance boxed sets), but I
_think_ I have a handle on various setting tropes.

Ok, lets start with the Sphere overall, as the events that led to
Krynn vanishing occur several decades into the future of the common
Spelljammer timeline, I'm going to leave them to more knowledgeable
folks.

Constellations, Planets and Gods
================================

One major feature of Dragonlance is the importance of astrology to the
setting, the gods are represented by celestial bodies, and this is not
just symbolic - when Paladine and Takhisis manifested on Krynn, their
constellations vanished from the heavens.

The stars of Krynnspace appear as portals to the plane of Radiance,
including those stars that make up the constellations. When the Deity
represented by a constellation manifested, the stars forming that
constellation vanish.

There should also be considered the creatures known as Constellates
(MC 9), their description definitely mentioned Krynnspace. I believe
that in Krynnspace, a Constellate is another avatar form of a god. It
is quite possible the gods assumed constellate form when they
destroyed Zivilyn (the planet), and inflicted the cataclysm upon
Krynn.

Another manifestation of Krynnspace astrology is the connection
between the Towers of High Sorcery and the moons of Krynn, which I
will cover in a later post.

Finally, the majority of the neutral deities of the Krynnspace
pantheon are represented by planets. While the Krynnspace supplement
states that the gods use their respective planets to scry the rest of
the sphere, I think that the relationship is more intimate, the
planet, in some respects, _is_ the god, or at least, is the gods
centre of consciousness within Krynnspace. It would be an interesting
idea if, when a Neutral god manifests in Krynnspace, their planet
vanishes in the same way that the constellation does, although this
raises questions as to what happens to the inhabitants of those
planets when this happens!

One fly in this ointment is the Deity Shinare, who lacks a planet in
Krynnspace (but has one in Tales of the Lance). Shinare's area of
control is 'Wealth, industry, freedom, power'. Possible solutions are:
a) Ignore the Problem, Shinare got a moon of Zivilyn anyway.
b) Nehzmyth is Shinare (really doesn't fit!)
c) The Stellar Islands are Shinare (as written, they don't fit, remove
the 'aura of goodness' and make them more a trading centre, and they
would fit - but this is a major tweak.
d) Add a whole new planet!

For b), c), and d) we would then have to decide if we re-named that
moon of Zivilyn.

Comments and Thoughts welcome.
