While we are discussing SJML etiquette, could I ask people to refrain from
using emotive language (such as saying that 2nd or 3rd edition "sucks").

It is perfectly alright to prefer one form of D&D over another. It is also
perfectly alright to prefer d20 combat over THAC0 or to prefer 2nd edition
priest spheres over 3rd edition clerical domains. However, all editions of
D&D have brought a lot of pleasure to a lot of players. So even if you don't
want to play specific forms of D&D it isn't accurate to say they "suck". But
being inaccurate isn't the problem - the problem is what other people infer
when you state that their favorite version of D&D "sucks".

If a version of D&D has pros and cons over other versions of D&D then using
that version is a personal choice. But if that version "sucks", you are
implying that it is so bad it shouldn't be used. And if you are implying
that, what are you implying about the people who choose to play a game that
shouldn't be played? They could easily infer that "you think they are to
stupid to realise they are playing a bad game".

I don't think anyone is actually implying that. I think they are actually
trying to say: "I have so many issues with X edition of D&D that I don't
want to touch it with a barge pole." But I don't think people realise that
written words can sometimes come across a lot harsher than they look when
you write them.

I think people need to pay a bit of attention to "how" they say things as
well as "what" they are saying. I also think that if people see something
that makes them feel a bit angry, they should try to avoid escalating the
situation.

We are all supposed to be here because we love Spelljammer. We all want to
see more content on Beyond the Moons (and some of us maybe even want to see
a 4th edition Spelljammer Campaign Setting). But SJ has a very small pool of
campaign material and the only way to have a long SJ game is to add to what
is already there.

We *all* need more "fluff", and converting material made for another version
of D&D is a lot easier than inventig new worlds from scratch. None of us can
invent an entire universe by ourselves, so we need to work together. We
shouldn't be rude to each other, or rubbish each other's RPG choices. If
anyone doesn't like something, all they have to do is leave it out of their
own campaign. There is no need for anyone to try to force people to agree
that their opinion is the right one.
