Have you ever looked at the hive that Mud Wasps make? Those things are
as hard as ceramic. Hell, that may be where people got the idea for
ceramics from. :D

Concur - but the use of a 'critter-built' ship (giant paper wasp or 
whatever) still has merit for the construction of some other races 
ships, such as Thri-Kreen, which is what I had in mind.
