This is perhaps irrelevant, but is a little thing I did in a short  
Realmspace-based Spelljammer campaign I did -

The Realms-based groundlings made it out into Realmspace, and were  
annoyed to discover that:

1.  The Red Wizards of Thay were really the only (non-Oriental)  
Realms power with any organized presence in space;
2.  As a result, everyone in space calls the planet "Thay", after  
what is obviously its most important nation.

Result:  all PC mages from Toril were innocently asked if they were a  
Red Wizard;  people in space with an interest in politics or  
geography would inquire politely which zulkirs ruled Waterdeep and  
Cormyr, etc.

The Red Wizards didn't really rule the whole world to any greater  
extent than is presented in the FR materials;  it was just a  
illustration of the power of names and perceptions.

An idle piece of flavor, anyway.
