If you really don't want to "buy" D&D there are PDFs of the SRD that you can 
download and print:

These 5 PDFs are published under the OGL and are 100 percent compatible with 
D&D. The publishers of OGL material do *not* pay WotC to use the SRD, so you 
can carry on playing with the same game rules, without giving money to a 
company you are unhappy with. (You might want to buy one of The Impossible 
Dream's other products to enable them to contine to fund this free service.)
