I had a dream, which was not all a dream.
The bright sun was extinguished, and the stars
Did wander darkling in the eternal space,
Rayless, and pathless, and the icy earth
Swung blind and blackening in the moonless air;

Lines 1-5. 'Darkness', Lord Byron

Continued from Part 1

IC:

Round 4:

In space:

Gripping the trailing rope tightly, Freneth pulls himself, hand over
hand, toward the NIGHTWIND.

NIGHTWIND, aft:

Leera remains behind the catapult with her dart.

Vais grabs Ives and slowly pulls the badly wounded giff back towards
the stern, away from the fight.

Sekeht slashes at the wight with his scimitar, but again his blade
produces no effect.

The silent wight returns the blow with his longsword. The blow
slashes across Sekeht's forehead, opening a deep gash and causing
blood to almost instantly begin spurting forth. Sekekht falls back
motionless to the deck, his blood pouring onto the deck.

Grigree continues towards the bow, tumbling to avoid any blows from
the wight which was kicking his butt.

Holland moves from his position, maneuvering around the combat, to
the rear of the two wights. A shimmering blue blade shoots forward
from Holland's fist.

But the wight with the rapier and shield turns towards Holland. "Ye
be a mage, eh? Ye'll be a fine addition to the crew, lad. Once
ye've been properly pickled."

NIGHTWIND, amidships:

Talus jerks back up upright, as if on strings, and floating inches
above the deck approaches the talking undead's back.

As the pirate mage goes down Kain appears somewhat surprised at his
own success but a wave of adrenalin carries him on towards the silent
wight which just downed Sekeht, his sword still swinging.

Moving up along side him, Nilaroo launches himself at Ives' foe,
swinging mightily with his two handed sword.

Dhebun has discovered his handax back in his hand as if he never
threw it. Grinning broadly, the dwarf hurls it again, this time at
the silent wight who downed Sekeht. The blow slams into the wight,
leaving a huge gaping hole in his withered back.

Shaking his head gently from side to side, Lellyn clambers to his
feet. With a slight grimace, he remarks "I shall leave these uncouth
fellows to your tender mercies as you seem to have them well in hand.
I shall do what I can to put out those fires, ere we all find
ourselves singing a marching song on our way to Bral.... without
benefit of a ship to carry us."

Lellyn races away across the decks to fight the flames.

Allagan tells the dust devil, "Help me climb by pushing me from
below" as he climbs up the side of the ship and crawls over the
railing.

Ferric climbs to the deck of NIGHTWIND.

Raken climbs the side of the ship, ordering his dust devil to guard
him against attack.

The rigging continues to burn brightly, most of it is now smoke and
ashes, but bits of burning hemp and sailcloth continue to rain on the
deck. At least half a dozen small fires burn on the deck of the
NIGHTWIND.

NIGHTWIND, below decks:

Oquid surveys the scene with her helm vision.

Round 5:

Drifting:

Freneth reaches the ship and starts to scale it, using his embedded
javelin as a stepping stone.

NIGHTWIND, aft:

Leera remains behind the catapult with her dart.

The Captain is quicker than Holland with his blade, thrusting his
rapier deep into the mage's thigh.

Holland slashes at the creature with his shimmering blade, but the
wight turns his mystical blue blade with the mirrored shield.

Now floating silently behind the pirate wight, Talus attacks the
undead with both Cutlass and dagger. Both blows land, cutting chunks
from his hide so the wight roars and spins about. "How many of ye
blighters there be!"

Distracted by the hurled ax, the silent wight turns from Ives and
Vais, towards the foredeck. Sword raised it meets Nilaroo and Kain's
charge.

Nilaroo attempts to disarm the wight with a strong beat upon its
blade. It's cold, dead hands are no match for the gromman's great
strength, and the longsword is knocked from the wight's hands.

Kain's shimmering form attacks the undead invader, his sword jabbing
out towards its ribs. He manages to slice some flesh from it's arm
as it bats the thrusting blade aside with its arm.

Vais says to Ives, "Hold tight here!" placing the giff's
platter-sized hands where they can keep the massive leg artery
tightly closed and slow the bleeding from the shattered knee. "I
need to get to Sekeht!"

NIGHTWIND, amidships:

Allagan tells the dust devil, "Attack that creature," indicating the
silent pirate wight, and then advances with his spear.

Ferric takes in the situation on deck and draws his own rapier as
well as the elven blade as he moves to engage the rapier wielding
pirate.

Raken surveys the scene. "By the Light of the Burning Suns," he
mutters at the sight of the hellish scene. He moves to engage the
silent wight while he orders his dust devil to join in the attack.

Grigree joins Lellyn in trying to fight the fires, but they seem to
do little but control the spread for the moment.

NIGHTWIND, below decks:

Oquid surveys the scene with her helm vision.

Round 6:

The wight spins and lunges at Talus, sending his rapier to slash a
deep cut in the half-elf's belly.

Talus continues to attack the undead with both Cutlass and dagger,
but misses with his dagger and finds the mirror shield parries
Cutlass.

Ignored for the moment, Holland strikes a second blow at the Wight.
This time his blue mystic blade slices into the wight, who raises his
mouth to the heavens and roars in pain and agony as the blue mystic
blade passes through his body like a knife through butter. It leaves
no visible wounds, just a look of utter agony on the twisted undead
face.

Then Ferric is there, attacking the vocal undead pirate by slashing
in with the elven blade and disarming its rapier with his own. the
shortsword digs straight into the creature's back, severing its
spine. The bag of bones crumbles to dust.

The silent wight lunges with both hands towards Kain, but Nilaroo
knocks the arms aside with his two-handed sword.

Kain's sword continues to jab at the skeletons body, landing a shallow blow.

Then Allagan steps forward with his spear and sends it deep into the
pirate wight, who follows his necromantic captain into dust.

Vais reaches Sekeht. Using one of his spells, the golem stops the
man's bleeding.

Nothing but the company moves as the NIGHTWIND drifts slowly in the
wreckage of the galleon, burning brightly in the starry void...
