Subject: Re: Krynnspace loose ends
Sorry for the delay with working on this. I've been trying to convert some
of the organisations of Krynn that could have a presence in Krynnspace.
(I've just finished work on the Wizards of High Sorcery - please look for
any logical errors that might have slipped through and let me know about
them.)

While working on this I've realised that their are some loose ends with
Krynnspace and Dragonlance that need to be tied up. Some of these relate to
the 5th Age DLCS, but some of them relate to the material in older products.
I'll list some of them here so that other people can comment:

1) River of Time - Age of Starbirth

This needs a bit of modification to reflect the Krynnspace point of view
because to them the gods created *all* of Krynnspace - not just Krynn.

"The High God Awakens" - When the High God writes the Tobril it should
contain plans for the entire crystal sphere (not just Krynn).
"Krynn Is Made" - And so are the other planets.
"Dragons Are Made", "Good Dragons Are Made" and "All Dragon War" - these
seem to relate just to Krynn, but we need to find a time to spread dragons
to the rest of the crystal sphere.
"Stars Claimed", "All Saints War", "The Balance Restored" and "Time of
Birth" - this should apply to the entire crystal sphere - we should have
races spring up on all of the worlds at this point.
"Birth of the Greygem" - this also seems to be specific to Krynn. It would
be nice for it to wander across all of Krynnspace, but I think we can
achieve the same thing via migration. Note that because the graygem was put
in Lunitari, it might have an effect on anyone living on the moon at that
time.

2) River of Time - Age of Dreams onward

The rest of the river of time, lets us know when specific races (on Krynn)
come into power. I'm in favour of giving the most powerful races
spelljamming technology at the height of their power. Not all of these races
should still have a presence in wildspace, but it would be nice for evidence
of them to be found by players. Less powerful races could also travel
through Krynnspace especially any race that gets used as slaves. These could
easily be sold to mind flayers, neogi or the chainmen at some time in
Krynn's past.

3) Sirion - the planet

This planet is mostly useless (suffering from the "lets make a world people
can't live on" problem). As Paul recently said, Krynnspace has little DL
feel to it and I find it hard to imagine doing much with it. However there
are gnomes on Taladas that can sail on volcanic lava and it might be worth
sticking some of them here to try to give the world something that would
make spacefarers want to visit. The new (3e/Takhisispace) Sirion does not
need to have any connection to the old (2e/Reorxspace) one, so we can do
something totally different there.

4) Reorx - the planet

This planet has potential, but is currently treated as if it has a single
global culture. There could easily be different sub-races of dwarves on
Reorx. In order for it to come to life we need to create events in its
history that match those of the DL saga. The new (3e/Takhisispace) Reorx
does not need to have any connection to the old (2e/Reorxspace) one, so we
can do something totally different there.

5) Krynn - spelljamming ports

The Port of Palanthas, as described in SJR7 Krynnspace, clashes with the
books of the Cloakmaster Cycle, where Teldin Moore is unable to locate any
information about spelljamming in Palanthas and is told to seek out the
gnomes of Mount Nevermind. The existence of an open port also conflicts with
the idea that groundlings on Krynn no nothing about wildspace.

Trampas tried destroying the port (in the 5th Age) but I think it needs to
be removed altogether. One solution would be to move the port from Palanthas
to a secret location in the nearby mountains surrounding the bay leading up
to Palanthas. The port could then be run in secret and visitors could land
on a heading that stops locals from seeing their ships. Something similar
should probably be done in Taladas, but I don't have thoughts on this at the
moment.

As a groundling world Krynn can pretty much be ignored as a destination for
spelljamming ships. Sadly this means that Krynnspace only actually has *3*
planets worth visiting at the moment! (In the 5th Age things get even worse
as we don't even have a groundling world there.)

BTW: Note the new spelling of "Palanthas" from the new DLCS.

6) Chislev - the planet

This planet has potential, but again is treated as if it has a single global
culture. There could easily be different sub-races of elves on Chislev.
Chislev makes a perfect place for the Elven Imperial Navy to recruit local
elves from. SJR7 Krynnspace doesn't document the EIN, but as this sphere is
part of the Radiant Triangle they need to be fleshed out. The EIN suffered
heavy losses in the First Unhuman War, so active SJ ports on Chislev could
be destroyed at that time. Even still it doesn't make sense to have no
connection between the elves of Chislev and the EIN. The new
(3e/Takhisispace) Chislev does not need to have any connection to the old
(2e/Reorxspace) one, so we can do something totally different there.

7) Zivilyn - the planet

Apart from its moons, this planet is mostly useless (suffering from the "if
you try to land you will crash" problem). This planet was destroyed at some
time in the past. These events are as important to Krynnspace as the
Cataclysm. In fact I'd suggest tying the two events together and have agents
of the Kingpriest of Istar active on Zivilyn. The moons probably did not
exist before the planet was destroyed. The new (3e/Takhisispace) Zivilyn
does not need to have any connection to the old (2e/Reorxspace) one, so we
can do something totally different there.

8) Nehzmyth - the planet/additional astronomical (2e/Reoxspace only)

This planet is also mostly useless (suffering from the "all who land will
die" problem). All of the planets in Krynnspace are named after a (neutral)
god except this one (and Krynn itself). This planet breaks the pattern.
There is no explanation for the name of this planet. It isn't the former
name of the god now called Chaos, so what *is* it named after? We need to
work out what is going on with this planet and try to make it into a place
where people might want to visit. (Incidentally this planet is not mentioned
in Krynn's second planetary system.)

9) The Stellar Islands - additional astronomical (2e/Reoxspace only)

These *could* have been created during the destruction of Zivilyn (and
therefore possibly didn't exist in Krynnspace's past). (They are not
mentioned in Krynn's second planetary system - I'd say they don't exist
there.)

10) Shinare - the planet (3e/Takhisispace only)

Look guys a *new* planet! Under the 3e cosmology all the neutral gods get a
planet named after them! The two exceptions are Lunitari (who still has a
moon - the one moved from Reorxspace to Takhisispace) and Gilean who gets
the only neutral constellation in the sky. Shinare didn't really get a
proper representation in the old sphere, so I think this is a "continuity
error" that I think the new DLCS has "fixed". (This planet seems to replace
Nehzmyth.)

11) Takhisis Steals the World - 5th Age/3e/Dragonhelm's Guide

After Takhisis steals the world (moves Krynn to the new crystal sphere) it
is said to have a single moon in its sky. I find it unlikely that that moon
was orbiting an empty point so I think it is more likely that Takhisis
"*SWAPPED* the world". A swap would solve a lot of our problems as it would
give us something to replace Krynn (as well as making it more likely that
the gods wouldn't notice the new planet for long enough for Takhisis to get
away with her theft).

Takhisis is said to have been planning this theft since the dawn of time and
I suspect that she had agents on the world that she swapped getting that
planet ready for the swap. We could therefore introduce a replacement for
Krynn that was *perhaps* populated with abyssal creatures or that featured
things from the Temple of Istar. Of course this would be a departure from
Dragonhelm's Guide where the both Krynn and its moons are not replaced.

12) Death of a Queen and Return of the Gods - 5th Age/3e/Dragonhelm's Guide

We have already worked out that the gods of Krynn do not need to abandon
their worshipers (in Reorxspace) in order to "go to Takhisispace". They can
be present in both systems. This is somewhere where we would be disagreeing
with Dragonhelm's Guide.

13) Return of the Moons of Magic - 5th Age/3e/Dragonhelm's Guide

The loss of the moons of magic is something we have been struggling with,
but there is something we haven't taken into account yet. Before these moons
went to the new crystal sphere Krynn was orbited by that single moon. When
they arrived that one moon had to go somewhere else. Why not send it back to
Krynn's old crystal sphere.

Of course we then face the problem that we have just one moon when we want
three. Maybe the gods of magic could split that alien moon up into three
chunks. This would give us a Reorxspace with an alien planet and a broken up
moon replacing Krynn and its original moons. (Another alternative is to
associate that single moon with all three gods and abandon the concept of
Moon Magic making spellcasting levels change with the conjunctions of the
moon.) Again we would be disagreeing with Dragonhelm's Guide here.

14) Spelljammer Organisations

Last but not least Krynnspace is currently also missing some of the major SJ
organisations. Adding these organisations will make it feel like part of the
Radiant Triangle. We need to pick the organisations that fit in and find a
home for them. The tinker gnomes need to have a bigger presence in
Krynnspace as this is *supposed* to be their home sphere. The descriptions
of Reorx and Chislev do not possibly represent an entire planet, so I think
it would be easy to put isolated communities on both of these worlds.
