(continued from previous post) *History* During the early years of the Spelljammers of High Sorcery, the abilities of its members were very difficult to predict. Many wizards preferred to stay in places where their Moon Magic would give them the abilities of High Sanction and a few stubborn wizards refused to leave the moon associated with their order. During the Third Dragon War the Spelljammers of High Sorcery were cut off from Ansalon and the Conclave or Spelljammers realised that they needed to force their orders off of Krynn's moons. They ordered the Towers of High Sorcery on these moons to be sealed for the duration of the war. The difficulties with Moon Magic were used against the Spelljammers of High Sorcery when the Knights of the Divine Hammer spread throughout Krynnspace and began to hunt the wizards down. The knights worked out when the wizards would be at their weakest and choose their moments to attack them. The Kingpriest of Istar issued letters of marque authorising privateers to cease any vessels harbouring helmsmen who were members of the Orders of High Sorcery and many captains refused to allow the wizards onboard. But the wizards in the Tower of High Sorcery on Zivilyn made a breakthrough in 10 PC when they managed to research a magical method that infused a Medallion of Faith with teleportation magic to create a medallion that was magically anchored to Ansalon. The Knights of the Divine Hammer raised an army of mercenaries on Zivilyn and assaulted the tower. Capturing it and executing all of the wizards who were unable to escape. However a few wizards managed to get away and took the new knowledge with them to the tower on Lunitari. ***Sidebar: Medallions of Magic*** Medallions of Magic Discovered on Zivilyn the Medallions of Magic look similar to Medallions of Faith used by Krynn's clerics. However instead of creating a connection between a cleric and his god a Medallion of Magic creates a connection between a Wizard of High Sorcery and the continent Ansalon on Krynn. Each medallion is made from silver and features an etching of one of Krynn's moons, as seen from Krynn, instead of a holy symbol. The connection is a very weak one and no physical material is able to pass through the connection. The only think that passes across the link is the power of Krynn's moons. A Wizard of High Sorcery wearing a Medallion of Magic can benefit from Moon Magic as if they were standing on the surface of Ansalon. The medallion works as long as the wizard remains within Krynnspace and only benefits Wizards of High Sorcery. Medallions of Magic can be created anywhere within Krynnspace, but do not function until an additional process is performed upon them. When created they function in a similar way to a clerical Medallion of Faith and are therefore of little use to Wizards of High Sorcery. However a second process alters the medallions in order to make them useful to the wizards. They must be taken to the surface of Krynn and then teleported up onto one of Krynn's moons. It doesn't matter where on Krynn the medallions are taken or which moon they are teleported too. Medallions of Magic for any of the Orders of High Sorcery can be created from any other Medallions of Magic or even Medallions of Faith. The Spelljammers of High Sorcery do not make Medallions of Magic available to Wizards of High Sorcery who decline to join their order. They could use their medallions to create Medallions of Faith for clerics, but prefer to keep the process secret. In fact wizards do not openly wear the medallions as clerics do. ***End of sidebar: Medallions of Magic*** *Spelljammers of High Sorcery in the 5th Age* The Spelljammers of High Sorcery described here is the organisation as it existed during the 4th Age. As the Spelljammer Campaign Setting is set during the 4th Age most DMs will prefer to set their games during this period. Any DMs wishing to set their games during the 5th Age will need to work out how the loss of Krynn would affect this organisation. The Spelljammers of High Sorcery would still receive their spells after Takhisis stole Krynn and the Conclave of Spelljammers would meet up and decide on a course of action. This would probably involve a search for Krynn. PCs playing Spelljammers of High Sorcery can be on a quest to find their missing world. The disappearance of Krynn's moons (during 419 AC) causes a problem for the DM, because along with the moons, three of the Towers of High Sorcery are lost. Without a solution the disappearance of the moons the wizards will probably loose the benefits (and penalties) of Moon Magic, although the rest of the benefits of the prestige class should remain unaffected. Each deity of magic is associated with one of the three transitive planes, and while they do not live their the belief by all Wizards of High Sorcery that their gods are connected with those planes is enough to create a link through them to their gods. *Further Information* For further information please see the following sources: "Dragonlance Adventures" (1e) by Tracey Hickman and Margaret Weis "SJR7 Krynnspace" (2e) by Jean Rabe "Dragonhelms Guide to Krynnspace" by Trampas Whiteman "Krynnspace" (at Beyond the Moons) by Trampas Whiteman, Shane O'Connor and Static "Dragonlance Campaign Setting" (3e) by Margaret Weis and Don Perrin "Legends of the Twins Web Enhancements" (3e) by Jamie Chambers "Towers of High Sorcery Web Enhancements" (3e) by Jamie Chambers David "Big Mac" Shepheard Virtual Eclipse Role Playing Club http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/virtualeclipselrp/links/d20_system_001071937434/Spelljammer_001071430476 http://www32.brinkster.com/virtualeclipse/
