Sword Heir Introduction: She stands by the rail looking out into the stars. Her black veil covers her teary eyes. She looked like a person in mourning. The captain stand beside her and talk softly with her. There are whispers of who she might be and why she is on the ship. The whispers of the rumors are quietly silenced by the officers. It is bad karma to bring a grieving person on the ship. The crew are afraid that the tears are for them. For The Dungeon Master: She is Lady Jessica Obadai, wife of Lord Jared Obadai. She is on the ship to escape from her husband's relatives who are fighting over her husband estate. She is ostracized, but her young son is claimed by each kin that wanted to control the estate. Chief among claimers is Lord Jared's mother who never accepted Jessica, but claims that the baby is the replacement of her beloved son. Lady Jessica boarded the ship of the players, be it their ship or a ship they are employed. She is planning to make a hasty retreat and disappear into the backwaters of wildspace. She will raise her son, Joam, away from her husband's family and leave all that bitter fighting behind. When she left she took only a few possessions that belong to her and her husband. One of the items is Saginaw, the Bloodtongue, a magical bastard sword. The sword is magical bastard sword that Lady Jessica's husband wields when he was alive. The sword double edge blade is in Damascus style swirl of steel, mythril and silver. The handle is bound by leather with a mythril pommel capped by a bloodstone and the mythril hilt are two dragons at each side of the blade. The sword has no magical bonuses for to hit or damage, but it can hit and damaged any creature that required magical weapons to hit, not matter the the bonus requirements. On any roll that hit it's opponent, a natural roll for damage that cause maximum damage, the player roll again for extra damage for every natural roll. Adventure Background: The family of Lord Jared not only want the boy, but also the sword. Whoever can have produced both can call himself regent for the baby. Each of the family would send their agents looking for mother and child. The mother of Lord Jared would be at the forefront of the search. She hated Lady Jessica with a passion. She looked down on her as the person that not qualified to be her son's bride. She wanted her grandson to raise him as her own. She would make sure this time that the next lord would be all she dreamed her own son should have been if only he did not destroyed his life. For The Player Characters: You always seen her at the rails looking into wildspace. She is polite, but reserve keeping to her cabin or her brief walk on the deck. She would stay out of the crew's way and would only talked to the captain. She always wore black clothes with a black lace veil over her face. Adventure: After returning to the port where Lady Jessica boarded, several group of men would be inquiring in the bars and hostels, if they saw a lady with a baby board any ship. There would be several different group, representing different family members, looking for the same information. It is up to the PCs if they would cooperate in finding Lady Jessica or try to keep the port she left the ship a secret. If the PC does not cooperate, rumors will work around the bars about their possible involvement. If they cooperate, they would be reimbursed with 100 GP for any information that would return Lady Jessica and the young lord. If they willingly helped, they would later learn that the young lord was returned, but Lady Jessica was nowhere to be found. If the PCs try to locate Lady Jessica the same men would try to stop them from locating her whereabouts, which is probably in the dungeon in the family's estate. Concluding The Adventure: If the PCs helped in returning Lady Jessica to the family, her dead husband's personal guards would exact revenge on the PCs. If they did not cooperate they will find it would be hard to stay in port without running into a lot of trouble from the family. If they protected Lady Jessica and helped her gain her husband's estate back, they would be handsomely rewarded. The PC's ship would also gain employment with the Trade House the family controls. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Cheap talk? Check out Yahoo!
