Loki <george.williams.iv@?????.com> wrote: The main thing is the complication of using hull sections, something I am still on the fence about. On one hand it provides a little more realism and a way to sink a ship without having t smash it into toothpicks. On the other hand it looks cumbersome and could well take a lot of the fun out of combat. The main problem with the hull sections rules are that the hull sections do not have a standard size based on the way they calculate them. One ship might have 8 foot x 10 foot hull sections, while another could have 4 foot x 5 foot sections. This is caused by figuring the cubic feet of the ship and then dividing it among the square footage on the main deck. I fixed it for my game by calculating off of the square footage of the main deck and setting hull sections to 10 foot squares. In the two ship to ship combats I ran, the narrative rules in the early part of the book worked very well, capturing the feel of a pirate movie (as best as a game can) while still providing a good structure of rules. The hull sections provided a good amount of tension (when the summoned huge water elemental grabbed the bow of the enemy ship and it almost collasped . . . Oh the look in my player's eyes :D). I think it is a good system for conversion to Spelljammer. Just watch out for the math on figuring hull sections. :) Ray Morris >-----------------------< >----- Blessed Be! -----< >-----------------------<
