I always looked at it the other way. People complain that when playing other
sentient species that people are just playing a human in a funny suit. But
the truth is, human is the only sensability we know and to claim that you
can really take on the thought process of another species is just unfounded.
Ultimately, whatever you are playing is a reflection of either your own
humanity or your desire for what you wish to see humanity become.

To quote Ernst Mayr, species are "groups of actually or potentially
interbreeding natural populations which are reproductively isolated from
other such groups". Its not the only definition of species but by it,
humans, elves, vulcans, klingons, and orcs are all the same species.
