Disney movie from a few years ago.  Basically, take
the novel Treasure Island, add a faux-SJ setting with
rockets instead of helms and your typical assortment
of "aliens" (aka dog-people, cat-people, rock-people,
a few strange ones) and you've got Treasure Planet. 
Overall, its not Shakespear, but is a fun cartoon with
elements very reminicient of Spelljammer.

And wiki does give some interesting figures as to its
"failure".  Looks to me that Disney just flat out just
went nuts with spending.  I think it was doomed long
before it reached the theaters: if it took in $100
mil, and lost $125 mil, and given how the revenue was
split, they needed it to make what, $300 million, to
break even?  That's insane.  It'd have to outperform
almost every other animated movie ever made, sans
Shriek.  It broke $100 million, which is HUGE for any
movie.  Disney just blew the budget terribly, ensuring
the movie's "failure" simply because the only way it
could have succeeded was to have been the #1 hit movie
of all time.
