I do not like steam-punk in my D&D games .. Eberron was interesting until I
read about all the 'steam-punkishness' in it. It is just to 'tech-happy'
for my tastes.
""Death to Tinker-Gnomes!""
Spelljammer is as far as I will go in allowing guns and cannons, {{even
though I do not like them, I know they are a part of the game system, so I
usually end up down playing them, or just leave them out all together}}
'Spellpunk' I like it !! ;-}~
the Mercane/Arcane don't make ships, all they make are helms, and trade/sell
everything and anything they can get their grubby six fingered hands on. ;-}~
that's my 2 cents worth,

PS: WoW graphics suck!
PSS: I like the Utilergist!
I wonder why nobody has critiqued the updates for Selene or Iberia yet? ..
hmmm??

Are you saying that Spelljammer is really steampunk, anyway?
I think it is more like Spellpunk! [grin]
The various -punk genres are sometimes considered to be something
to do with a certain William Gibson-type of attitude, the 'punk'
part, presumablably, of underculture and maybe film noir.
SJ can be a lot more positive than that, and can be postively
mainstream, within the wildspace culture - a sort of extension of
the frontier, maybe more Wild West, exploring, adventuring side
of things. Don't forget the pirates! [grin]
As for guns, they are ranged combat for everyone, not just mages,
and archers - I don't think that adding them to a game is always
desirable.
I seen occasional speculation about what a generally available
means of defence, as opposed to offence, might do to a culture!

How much do you think the latest version of Utilergy:
http://www.romsys.demon.co.uk/frpg/spelljam/majspace/utilergist.htm
fits in with what Artificiers and Magewrights can do? (I've not
seen the Eberron rules, as yet.)
I _think_ I can see ways of spec-ing constructs, based on what is
in MM/SRD, and a re-write of some 2ndEd Construction Priest
rules, which would give you living and non-living constructs,
both self-intelligent and with transfered intelligences.
But, there's likely lots of other things of higher priority! [grin]
I didn't think the Arcane/Mercane were that good shipwrights?
I thought that their forte was the supply of Helms and related
magic for SJ?
