The only reason I put in the Warpriest was because there are AD&D books out there that can and should be used as reference material to make the game go smoother with less "stress" of making up stuff. With just a bit of changing things around you can easily add the prestige classes into any campaign setting, or even add some new character classes that are in the existing handbooks. example: in the Complete Arcane, there is a character class called the Warmage .. it is simple a sorcerer that has been trained to only cast damage spells but is a viable character class. (and I understand you do not wish arcane spell casters to be in Roma unless they have some form of divine casting abilities, which is fine) Complete Adventure: Scout character class Complete Warrior: Swashbuckler character class etc.. etc.. handbooks are references' and guides that should be used to the fullest extent that can be. and Warpriest .. you don't have to be a 7th level cleric .. you could be a 2nd lvl cleric and a 4th lvl fighter which makes more sense in the long run as "Olander" has stated in his posting. but if you want Roma to have their Adeptus Mil that is your choice as well, all I'm saying is there are alot of reference materials out there for AD&D3E that can and should be used. Thanks. I've not read the "Complete Divine", and that is part of the issue with trying to do something as a SJ Campaign Setting - it should not depend on anything except the PHB/DMG/MM or SRD, and the SJ rules. The other problem is the usual one with prestige classes - what does the character do until they are actually good enough to qualify for the class? -- The idea of Adeptus Mil is that the Roma army disrupts its existing structure as little as possible while providing support against enemy spellcasters. A starting AM would be 1st, and be a sort of auxiliary, like a chaplin or medic. -- There is no room for clerics who will try and push their own agendas (i.e. those of their religions) rather than the interests of the army. The army wouldn't want to appear to be pushing one religion. -- The army is probably made from 3rd-5th level soldiers (veterans), less than 7th, and with no clerics; what would the potential Warpriests do until they reached say 7th level Cleric? It would be nice to use an existing class or maybe prestige class, but it looks as though I'd have to do the (hopefully minimal) work.
