That is the same reasoning why I came up with Eloise
of Bral, trade insurance underwriter, in my campaign.
You have the food, water and common material
commodities being the normal trade in wildspace.
Special trade items like 100 year old ambrosia wines,
purple marble with gold flecks, ebony colored elephant
ivory, beer in green bottles (Elminster Aumar would
never divulge where he is getting his supply), or
pearls the size of King Kong's...<blink>...ahem, would
fetch a handsome value if traded at the right place.
Supply and demand would form the trade routes. There
might be four to six stops to form a trade route that
would loop back to their home port. Now the problem
might be trying to keep a trade route secret or
sharing it with competitors, since the market could
get flooded lowering prices.
