ok these's side by side of both ships I've built. I think I may have made
the tradesman too tall (height) but otherwise it's dimensions pretty much
match that of the cards in the SJ box set, unless they were meant the "keel
length included the rear fin", which would be dumb as that's nearly half the
length of the ship! ;)
The height though, does make the bottom cargo hull a "reverse gravity"..I
could tweak the model and reduce the depth of the lower half of the hull

the human models are 6' high exactly for comparison

Ship sizes:
Tradesman: 28 beam, 112' long (159' from tip of bow to rear fin), 26' high
form base of hullto highest deck

Squidship, 202' long from tip of ram to tip of tail, 110' long total deck
size (measured across all decks)
20' wide, 18' high bottom of hull to highest deck

Into space, bulk foods--grain, beans, etc.-- become important commodities.  
I'd expect a lot of tradesmen in such a basic trade.
