Some spheres seem to work by you getting to about where the shell logically is, doing something (like using Locate Portal or Create Portal), then entering the Flow. These spheres might allow you to proceed indefinitely into 'interstellar wildspace' if you don't do it right. You might even be able to get to another star if you travel long enough, but at about 1600yrs to go a light year using spelljamming speed... My sphere Tsu, posted a while ago, seems to be filled with the grey mists of non-existance, and while there appears to be a finite shell from outside in the Flow, there is no sign of it from the inside. Other spheres may wrap around - go far enough out from the centre in one direction and you find yourself heading back towards the centre from the opposite direction, though there is likely a visual distortion at the wrap, otherwise the stars wouldn't look right. The wrap point is the shell - Locate Portal may lead you to places where you exit to the Flow rather than wrapping. I think the travel time is useful, and it is likely useful to put the AU distance for planets as well, if they have vaguelly circular orbits. I am also concerned about issues of interaction with the crystal shell. The shell may be a pseudo-physical object, in that it stops passage, but can you crash into it, or do you suddenly safely stop? Does it count as an object which causes you to drop out of spelljamming speed? We need, I think, to establish what the standard for these is in SJ. > Hmmm.. lots of Dwarves and elves out there in the rest of the sphere. [snip] I thought seriously about putting various spelljamming races, or more exotic beings, but I thought that dwarves and elves might ease the culture shock for DMs new to SJ. They are also races for which the community life is likely better understood by the average DM and players. You could call it a minimalist approach! [grin] I feel that, in general, there is a dwarf shortage! [grin] An encounter between the elves of this sphere, on Sunev, and the IEN could be interesting... In particular with their respective attitudes to the Scro! Please note that the scro of this sphere have no previous history with the IEN, and are rather culturally different. I have also very carefully not mentioned the Arcane. -- Dreamer dreamer@??????.?????.??.uk http://www.romsys.demon.co.uk/
