On Planewalker, the Official Planescape Site, we use Illithids and such frequently with no problem. I belive that it is because they are a part of the setting we are premitted to develop (official status is a good thing). I do not think we would have any trouble with doing so here. I also think that if we drop the idea of simply porting over the original text and instead paraphrase we will again have no problems. Our 3.5 conversion is almost done over there and that is the appraoch we took. Another note is that being an Official Site we have a different status than those who are simply doing module conversions. We have a lot more latitude. It just has to remain here on the site. Planescape is much higher profile than SJ so if problems would have come out of our approach there we would have encountered them by now. Also, one of our Mgmt Team works for WOTC (not sure of what capacity) and would have brought us up short. Hope this helps. I, of course, defer to our fearless leaders if they have another view. I am simply relating my experience with Planewalker as I believe it is pertinent to this discussion..
