Correct me if I get this wrong, but I think this works out to: 1) Only BtM (or WotC) can post or publish a product that is called "Spelljammer" that has "Hadozee", "Mind flayers / Illithids", "Beholders", and "Neogi" in it. Other people can make OGC inspired by SJ so long as they do not mention Hadozee, Illithids, Neogi, or Beholders and properly give credit. [all of the aberent evil races of SJ are limited to D&D, and the conversion of hadozee in Stormwrack limits them too] 2) conversions of the adventure modules, the locals in Practical Planetology and Space Lairs, or any of the ___space books must follow the conversion license (be non-sensible) or be officially authored by BtM. -- this includes all references to what any groundling NPC or nation on the published core worlds knows, thinks, or has of SJ Therefore: anybody that isn't BtM is allowed to write a d20 OGC that has rules for having magical sailing ships in space (travel, combat, etc.) with stats for Giff, Gromman, Dracon, Hurweati, Rastipedes, and the solitary monsters of space. and Maybe package it with a home-brew setting with dwarves in flying mountains, goblinoids and other humaniods in hiding, a paramillitary / terrorist group of smart orcs, a space police force / ruling navy / army of goodness of elves, where some lizardfolk have intellegence. Then BtM (or WotC) can take any such OGC they feel like, edit it, add in all the refernces to closed races and monsters, change the setting to match cannon, add some more legal text, and list the OGC and it's authors as contributers or an inspirational work. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Static" <eshum@????????.org> > Howdy, > >>> As for legality, BtM--as an official site--can post almost anything >>> without bothering with the conversion license. >> >>What things should we avoid to prevent problems? > > I should mention that even the official sites can't post direct > copies of large chunks of text from real sources.
