That is correct. That was the rationale for space that weapons take  
up. Besides, even if that is not all that realistic it helps to  
prevent having too many weapons on a ship. Too many weapons = slow  
combat.

Most of the ships in SJ are smaller than they indicate anyway, if you  
use the given dimensions.  : )

Either way, the system itself does not rely on the given examples. If  
you want to match the previous editions tonnage, go for it. Making  
ships is especially fast and easy if you can use the Excel  
spreadsheet. I just decided I wanted to shrink ships down a bit to  
match the deck plans in most cases.

BTW, thanks for the feedback from those who have used the system.  
Nice to hear it is getting some use out there!
