That was also a major draw for me, many of our PCs toook these skills and feats (Ozzy, our giff fighter consistently led a ballista team during combat using feats from this system). I used Pilot Spelljammer rather than using a profession skill as a default. Caveat: I run a game where role play and skills are very important.
