What is the difference between these? Does a Basic Helm have
spelljamming speed capability and a Boat Helm only tactical
speed?

I assume a Basic Helm can land and take-off from larger than
size level A worlds; can a Boat Helm?

The cheapest permanent magic item in my campaign (IMC), using a
1st level spell, costs 2,000 gp to make, takes 6 weeks, and
requires you to be 10th level. That is about 3,500 gp Market
Price. The only way you get the price down further is that one
enchantment makes several items, such as 6 arrows. A single
magical +0 arrow will then cost you about 600 gp.

IMC, the cheapest one-use potion, Healing Balm, is 50 gp.

Under AD&D 2ndEd a raft or small keelboat costs 100 gp.

I would guess that a Boat Helm requires the permanent enchantment
of say a 5th level arcane spell. With a very generous DM they
might let you claim that the 1 ton limit and the lack of spell-
jamming speed takes the spell level down one to 4th; I wouldn't.
I don't see you making several of these by means of one
enchantment.


How do these sort of prices fit together?
