Helly yall,

Just wanted to say hi, and all that.

I've always been interested in the Spelljammer system. Only problem
was, none of my friends who do play AD&D were not interested in playing in
the SJ system. The biggest reason was that you needed a spellcaster of some
type to power the helm and loose all his/her spells for the day. I
personally do not blame them because I to did not want to sit in the chair
to power a helm.

Now in the SJ3e system, I've noticed at this site ..
http://www.shatteredfractine.com/ .. that they changed how it works a bit.
{cool site btw}

Spelljammer Helm, Major: This helm allows the individual seated upon it to
move large mass through space by means of channeling helm's the energies,
that enchants ship, directly into a motive force. This energy is somewhat
useful for maneuvering the ship up to 200 tonnage, but primarily it provides
the push that makes the ship move forward (or backward). Maneuvering comes
primarily from the ship’s sails and oars.
The power of the force is known as the ship’s TS (tactical speed)
rating. Helms have TS rating of +1 to +10. Any ship taking sufficent damage
to cause the ship to break apart causes the helm to become inoperable till
such a time it is attuned to a new ship.
Caster Level: 13th; Prerequisite: Craft Wonderous Item, create major
helm, creator's class level must be twice that of the bonus (TS) enchanted
into the helm; Market Price: 10,000 gp(+1), 40,000 gp(+2), 90,000 gp(+3),
160,000 gp(+4), 250,000 gp (+5), 360,000 gp(+6), 490,000 gp(+7), 640,000
gp(+8), 810,000 gp(+9), 1,000,000 gp(+10); Weight: 30 to 300 lbs.

Notes on this Variant/Conversion: When making the conversion for
spelljamming helms for 3E, decided that siphoning spells away from
spellcasters weaken them so that they are not an effect member in any fight
on board the ship they pilots. By making the Tactical Speed base on Helm and
not level of spell caster allows for much cheaper helms, which in 3E is more
balancing.
I am sure that this is but one of many conversions/varient that will
show up of major helm

Now this type of helm I could get to like, yes a spellcaster is still
needed to "power" the helm, but they don't loose spells anymore. Also it
means you don't have to be a ungodly powerful mage to move a ship fast
anymore, you can hire low level spellcasters to "pilot" the ship now .. the
speed all depends on the strength of the helm.. :-}

ok so this was supposed to be just a message saying hi, I'm new to the list
.. lol ..

Jeymian Winterwolf is me list name...
