(Maybe we should have a navy slang postfest and collect it all for BtM).

A navyspeak slang post sounds like fun!
Here's an oldy but a baddy. "Having a date with the gunners
daughter" meant the victim was to be flogged or caned while straddling the
cannon with hands and feet tied to the gun cradle. Ouch!

By the way, if you are desiging crew for a ship you might want to make sure
you have some very young "powder monkeys" as well as some very old
experienced spacehands (perhaps with an injury from long ago). A bit of
variety will stop your crew looking like a bunch of clones to your players.
Players may prefer to talk to the older newer crew members, and the variety
will justify you using certain crew members to pass on background
infomation* or ask questions to the players**.

I already do that with ships that the PCs will travel on, but I was
just looking for the most effective cost efficient crew mix I could get for
this class of ships that will be used mostly for economic "kingdom"
building. The PCs are not likely to ever sail in one. If they do, I already
have a set piece crew of personalities to flesh out the conversation.
The PCs in FeOsphere, you see, are the ruling council members and
now it is their job to make the sphere safe, prosperous and free. It has
been a long time since those particular characters have gone on a dungeon
crawl. The HC supertanker is just one of the many ideas they have had (even
if the actual hull design was mine) to improve internal trade stability
within the sphere without infringing on free merchants. They still have to
get approval for anything they plan from the Senate and the Commons (Me, the
GM) who may alter or veto the request on a majority vote.
