If you are talking about Lizardmen, I've seen people use more
intelligent ones, with illusion abilities.

In the simplest case, these are based on the 'Conan' variety,
which can take an illusion of human form (something like a Change
Self spell?), but some are fully blown Illusionists, or at least
have mental powers associated with illusion.

Some of the really wimpy versions of these just looked like small
humans, with lizard heads. Maybe with a mental power that gave
them a universal translator ability, which could be very useful
in a Spelljamming setting.

Then there are the Cthulhu Mythos lizardmen, about which I know
less, but they supposedly had some pretty impressive
capabilities.

Some lizardmen may claim to be the first humanoids, created by
the dragons as servants, and predating even the elves. They may
even claim to have some draconic blood.

Weren't there lizardman equivalents of Ogres, somewhere, to?
