Yup.

This is the best idea I've heard in a while. I hope
you don't mind if I steal it? I am a fanatic about
wild magic, and I had wild magic nebulas or zones out
in space all over the place. The elves of the biggest
elven navy were able to use these wild magic zones to
create and control gateways to other crystal spheres,
but this as detailed as it got. Your idea sounds much
better. Maybe the elves control the gates by singing
or playing songs, and the harmonics of the songs act
upon magical satellites that orbit near the wild magic
zones. The satellites then create the portals. They
make big gates ships can fly through, but a smaller
version could be made for planetary surfaces. It
would need some sort of "canned" form of wild magic to
provide the energy for it, though.

I really like this idea.
