i like you approach. why not having both? like duplicate names in the
spheres (two "dragon rocks" in realmspace), the inhabitants of the spheres
could also have multiple explanations for the names of some spheres.

it could add to the realism/flair when the pc´s hit on more than one
theories about naming of greyspace, for example. the dm could introduce
history or legends though a consulted sage the characters ask about a
spheres name:
pc: "...why is it called treasure sphere?"
sage: "because it houses the legendary treasure planet, hiding the loot of
a ´tousand worlds" somewhere inside. the sphere emerges every decade or so
on some map, always in a different location in the phlogiston, but all who
found it, found an empty sphere, apart from lot´s of asteroids. either
there is no treasure planet inside or no planetary locator works there..."
