Maybe the food could be dangerous enoph that the military hunts them...Giant flying monsters that taste great, big enoph for 6 months of food. That'd keep the giff from getting bored. Or slugs than feed on metal, or maybe MAKE metal.... -----Original Message----- From: Discussion list for the Spelljammer campaign setting [mailto:SPELLJAMMER-L@??????.???????.com]On Behalf Of Smu Anonymous Sent: January 27, 2005 12:40 AM To: SPELLJAMMER-L@??????.???????.com Subject: [SPELLJAMMER] Metal Space : NEW Sphere "Smu anonymous, you had some terrific ideas when I was developing the Culinary Guide, do you have any thoughts?" You flatter me sir. What do you have in mind? Means of food production or specific recipes? Food production as you said can be at least partially (and likely wholly) supplied by large underground fungus farms. The moistness of this underdark is probably quite conducive to that (tangent: maybe sections that are full of rapidly growing DEATH SPORES, that you can't enter because then you get all fuzzy right quick). Fishing can certainly supply some food, though considering whats in the water, fish are likely fataly toxic to offworlders (and possibly some natives as well). Heavy metals build up in the food chain in fish, its a problem here on earth with mercury, and our water is seemingly clean to Garatoch's. Infinity vine farms (growing both the plant and things that live can live off of it) in orbit could also supply additional food for both the planet and Verdigris. If there is any arrible land on the island that isn't totally toxic from metal buildups milling the products (or raw grain brought in) certainly wouldn't be a problem as a giant world ocean is going to make for a lot of nice steady winds to power windmills. Tangent: Actually a lot of things could be powered by windmills, pumps to help clear mines for example... The only concern being that hurricanes and what not seem like they would tend to make short work of a windmill. Seared Slag Grouper: Slag groupers are found around the island but since a magic user is required to prepare them for safe consumption the dish is somewhat costly. After a fish is cleaned heat metal is cast on it. The enormous amount of metal in the fish cooks the grouper as it glows white hot and burns its way out, leaving it fit for consumption by even offworlders. There are a number of different ways the fish can be prepared after this. It is currently in vogue to brais(cook slowly in fat in a closed pot with little moisture) the meat in thoqua fat. ===== Proverb: Give a man a fire and he will be warm for a day. Light a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
