For an interesting take on what effects the introduction of tech can have on
a classic DND setting type Urban Planes project into google. It started as
an update to Planescape for d20 Modern, and evolved into a first contact
scenario between our earth (or one much like it) and the Githyanki. Trust
me, a nuke in the astral is quite a way to introduce tech into a game.
Anyway, there is a lot of info (particularly the stuff on the city of
Freehold) that explores the ripple effects created as the two genres
interact. It might well give you additional ideas.
