Then there was Blackmoor, in the original D&D rule book of that
name, with an alien in a swamp full of mutated killer frogs,
impersonating a high priest, and equipped an insanely powerful
suit of powered armour. I'm not sure if this appears somewhere in
the Greyhawk setting.

Locally, a number of different groups of adventurers assaulted
Barrier Peaks/S3, as run by different DMs, and trying to make
sense of some of the gadgets from there was one of the things
driving the Technologist character class spec. FYI, I was not one
of those DMs, though I did play one of the adventurers.

In the end, a now empty looted spaceship had yeilded a number of
things. One adventurer ressurected some of the long-dead crew, to
help him run a hospital, partly based on medical equipment looted
from the ship. Another group of adventurers sold a different
version of the spaceship to a mysterious NPC, on the basis that
he collect. He did, and his minions carried the whole ship away!

None of these things had any really long term effect on the local
campaigns, though some people continue to be upset about The
Hospital, and mutter about organising yet another assault on it,
possibly in the hope of being asked to join the board of
directors! [grin]

I don't know if what I've in mind will do, but I would hope there
might be some interest in it.
