To some extent that is the issue I would like to address. Having
an encounter between a higher tech setting and spelljammers is
something a DM may wish to do, and completely ruling it out stops
DMs from considering a wide range of stories.

I am not trying to force high tech on anyone, just explore how
DMs could make use of it without trashing their SJ setting, and
its unique style and 'look-and-feel'.

The point, I think, is to look at this from the SJ point of view,
though a story line told from the viewpoint of a high tech
society having a 'first contact' with SJ could be interesting as
well.

I know I've seen reference to people on this list who've used
this as a campaign idea, or at least the history of their current
campaign.
