Quick and dirty intro to ancient greek religion--according to the most
popular account, Gaea and Uranus brought forth the Titans.  Cronos (or Kronos;
"Chronos" is time) led the Titans against their father, Uranus, to free their
trapped brethren from Tarterus, part of the Underworld. Cronos, fearing one of his
children would supplant him, swallowed his children (Hades, Poseidon,
Demeter, Hera, Hestia) except Zeus. Zeus was raised to adulthood, fed Kronos an
emetic, and Kronos vomited up his other children. Zeus led the gods against the
Titans; Prometheus and his brother (Epithemeus?) sided with the gods. Zeus got
Kronos' throne, Poseidon got the mantle of the Seagod, and Hades became ruler
of the Underworld. The Greek Underworld had three sections--the Elysian
Fields, the general underworld, and Tarterus. Heroes went to the Fields, villains
went to Tarterus, and everyone else went to the general underworld.
