Here is a stream of consciousness piece that came to me. The inspiration is our new Bard (the one I mentioned who has Melodyans in his ancestry). He has a feat from the Expanded Psionics Handbook called Hostile Mind. Anyone using a telepathic power on him must make a save or take damage from psionic feedback. I got to thinking about what sort of environmant this would be a survival trait in. So here goes, The Psionics of Mirrorspace Introduction; Much as certain magics are affected differently from lane to plane or sometimes from crystal sphere to crystal sphere, psionics suffers certain variances at times. The Sphere of Krynnspace is commonly thought to be a null-psi sphere ( http://www.spelljammer.org/worlds/Krynnspace/psionics.html ), and MirrorSpace is a high-psi sphere. Background: One of the things that contributed to the rise of the Reflective Empire (as Mirror was known outside the Sphere) was the unusually high amount of psionic entities it contained. This was easily evident in places like Melodya where psi was as common as arcane magic is in many spheres. The downfall was that it was also a very conducive environment for many dangerous psionic creatures, the Illithid and Aboleth being two prime examples. This also explains the high danger level of adventuring in this sphere, many parties are unfamiliar with the Invisible Art and have little in the way of resources for combatting it. This is especially unfortunate when you take into account the fact that of the many Tanaarrii and Baatezu that haunt the ruins of Mirror fully half of them are the dreaded Cerebreliths (High Psi Demons). Travellers From Beyond; Those with psionics who venture into MirrorSpace describe the feeling as "invigorating," "energizing," or just ,"a rush!" (The following effects will be described in DNDv.3.5 which is our system for our campaigns.) Psionic characters/creatures gain an extra ten psionic power points per day for their entire stay within the sphere. Psionic items always function at maximum efficiency (Maximized and empowered) Many is the psionic adventurer who got swept up in ,"the Rush," and overextended himself to death. (Will Save DC 18 or character must roleplay in a reckless and egotistical manner). Natives of Mirrorspace: Psionic abilities are common amongst the native species of this sphere. There is also a much higher than normal number of psionic creatures inhabiting the sphere. All of them gain the benefits that new arrivals gain (listed above), as well as the following: 30% of all creatures encountered that do not have psi like abilities or psionic class levels do have the Hidden Talent Feat from the Expanded Psionic Handbook (1 psionic power of the lowest level) but with 10 power points rather than 2. fully half of those that possess no psionic abilities have the feat Hostile Mind (XPH again, folks) which causes feedback damage when someone tries to use a telepathy based power on them. (this balances a lot out, even though psi is heavy in this sphere, resistance is fairly common amongst the natives. Poor PCs......) The Elear (elven for Vissionary)- the Elear are those amongst the native elves that evince "talent." It is little know, but the Elven Navy recruits it's psioncs mostly from this sphere. The Pirates of Gith- Haunting the Fiendish Forest around Mirror itself the Gith unlike many of thier kinsmen are more protectors than pirates. They live in an eternal chessgame with the Illithids of Melodya who constantly assault the ruins in hopes of finding the psionic artifacts they belive to exist in the fromer capital. Cult of Ilsensine- worshipers of the Mind Flayer Goddess Ilsensine are mostly looked upon as abberrations by their fellows. Any "true" Illithid has no need for a Goddess since it will attain immortality when it merges with it's community's Brain Pool. Yet followers of this Goddess make up almost a third of the Illithids in this sphere. Many of them possess powers far beyond normal Illithids, as well as a measure of divine magic to call upon when psionics won't be effective. Drommites- (new character race from the Expanded Psionics handbook. Think small unisex insect humanoids about the size of halflings). There are a few small drommite Hives in the asteroids of the former Reflective Empire. They mostly specialise in outfitting Seekers, Celestians, and other adventurers on thier way to investigate the ruins. Cerebreliths- making up half the population of demons roaming the ruins of Mirror Prime, these psionic demons have been know to carve out small kingdoms for themselves amongst the Fiendish Plantlife that infests the asteroids. Dominating lesser entities, and sometimes other demons, they rule with thoughts of fire. Several stories are told of a succubus dominated by a Cerebrelith who lures explorers to their bloody dooms. Pictures of the Cerebrelith and the drommite can be found at http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ag/20040403a Theories Mages, sages, and psions endlessly argue over what gives Mirrorspace it's psionic amplification properties. No one theory has gained common acceptance yet. Some belive that it is caused by unique properties of the crystal sphere itself. Some believe that there is a massive crystal at the heart of the primary which acts as a sphere wide psionic battery. Still others believe that it is evidence of the rise of psionic powers (after all, the Celestians have always had a propensity for psi). Another, darker, theory is that it is due to the machinations of the Illithids as they try to expand their own power base.
