Broken Jon

(Human Male, Wiz 11 {Int 8}-See Below)

Jonell Vildan, or as he is now known, Broken Jon, was once a spelljamming
mage of some repute. A Bralian born mage and respected member of the Mage's
Guild of Bral (
http://www.spelljammer.org/worlds/locs/RockOfBral/MagesGuild.html )born with
a not uncommon wanderlust he would eagerly ship out on the most outlandish
missions. This was probably also attributable to his spendthrift tendencies,
which rendered him broke shortly after each return.

His last mission off-Rock was with an exploratory ship attempting to map
unexplored Spheres beyond the known starcharts. The ship was an independent
Squidship called, "The Question," rumored to have been bankrolled by the
Seekers (
http://www.spelljammer.org/contests/localchapters/SeekersEnclave-Bral.html )
He was listed on the manifest as the ship's Spelljammer and Spellmaster.

3 years after their departure, survivors of, "The Question," were returned
to the Rock by a Merchant ship from Greatspace. The survivors told tales of
a Sphere called Falx, which is either Illithid controlled or possibly the
Illithid Homeworld. Among the tales of horror they told was the story of an
Illithid attack in which Jonnell almost died. A mind flayer had actually
begun the process of devouring his brain when the groups "expert treasure
hunter," ran it through from behind.

Unfortunately by the time he did so Jonnell had suffered permanent brain
damage. (Int dropped to 8, effectively destroying his ability to cast arcane
spells, and shattering his sanity).

Broken Jon now lives homeless in the streets of Lowtown Bral near the docks.
He is conspicuously absent wherever Illithids are present, and will flee as
though under a Fear Effect if one appears in his line of sight. He has
become a dreammist addict ( Book of Vile Darkness for you 3e players.
Similar to heroin bestowing visions of beauty while under it's effect.
Causes a temporary 1d4 reduction to both Wis and Con while under it's influe
nce.) Finding solace from his continuing nightmares in it's embrace.

He is constantly twitchy and paranoid, except when on dreammist when he is
blessed out and oblivious. He is constantly troubled by dreams in which he
relives having his mind raped and consumed, he is also wracked with sorrow
as he has dim memories of what he once was prior to the attack. In either
state he is left alone by those who would otherwise prey upon him due to
the general feeling that to do so would be extremely bad luck. This feeling
has been encouraged by the regular beggars and barkeeps of the low city who
have a very protective attitude towards him.

His head is covered with scar tissue from where the Illithid feeding
tentacles entered his skull, making him easily identifiable.
