How is this (An expansion of your original paragraph):
The final battle for Mirror was chaotic and mysterious. All four surviving
navies, sensing the city was about to fall, rushed in to
claim the prize for themselves. They were met by the last of Mirror's
defenders, elder warriors and young bloods barely capable of holding a
sword.

While the city devolved into a bloodbath, Jedzera the Loremaster was hiding
in her manor.
She was kept safe by her extensive guards and wards, as well as by
retreating into a Falkirk's Tiny Brothel
created by one of her magic items. Inside it she acitvated a Juna artifact
that she had been studying for the past
century. Her research had led her to belive that it was some kind of weapon.
In reality it was a magical terraforming device.
Unfortunately, just as she was activating it her sanctuary was hit by a
hellball. The channeled energy of the hells
was lensed through the protective magics of the Tiny Brothel, weaving itself
into the Juna magic. As the Tiny Brothel collapsed under the onslaught the
Juna device was physically thrown into Jedzera's botanical laboratory (full
of infinity vine, starfruit variants, and wolf in sheep's clothing (S4
Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, conversion on the Creature Catalog), as
well as many other varieties of strange and magical plantlife.

What followed was an explosion of growth. And not only that, as the green
grew it absorbed the fading energies of the hellball giving the new growth a
fiendish and carnivorous taint. The asteroids turned green, and then the
green filled the sky. In a matter of hours, the city was englobed by a
tangled mass of space trees, briars, and man-eating plants. Few were able
to escape the green tomb to pass on the tale of Mirror's fate.

(Just what came to the top of my head...)
