Hey guys,

toying with an idea: an ancient, ruined city of power in space.
Basically an SJ take on the "ruined city" theme. So here's my first shot at
a basic outline :) Figure I'll post it and see where things lead.

Adam

Proposal: The Ruins of Mirror

Concept: A "Myth Drannor" for Spelljammer.

Background: Five centuries ago, the City of Mirror was the greatest
metropolis in wildspace. Commanding the resources of the asteroid cluster
that surrounded it, Mirror rose to dominate an empire that stretched across
the entire sphere. Treasure ships laden with loot from dozens of colonies
flowed into Mirror's bulging coffers. The excesses of the nobility were
famous far and wide, for they purchased every luxury conceivable. Mirror
was the very heart of civilization during its time.

Then the Unhuman Wars began. Goblins, orcs, ogres, and even
opportunistic pirates knew well of Mirror's riches, and coveted to take it
for themselves. Mirror found itself under siege by not one, but five
separate navies, each trying to plunder it of its treasure. Ill-fated
alliances with the mind flayers, many of whom actually dwelled in the city
and were fed those sentenced to die, produced the famous cuttle command and
octopus ships. The alliance was doomed from the start, as traitors allied
with one warlord stole several ships.

The final battle for Mirror was a chaotic and mysterious. All
four surviving navies, sensing the city was about to fall, rushed in to
claim the prize for themselves. They were met by the last of Mirror's
defenders, elder warriors and young bloods barely capable of holding a
sword. In the rush, an ancient weapon was accidentally (or perhaps
deliberately?) triggered. Before their very eyes, the asteroids turned
green, and then the green filled the sky. In a matter of hours, the city
was englobed by a tangled mass of space trees, briars, and man-eating
plants. Few were able to escape the green tomb to pass on the tale of
Mirror's fate.

For centuries, the ruins of Mirror have been a magnet for
tomb-robbers and adventurers. The city is thick with monsters, magic, and
treasure. Its location is well-known, but the ever-growing forest of
man-eating trees keeps all but the bravest (or most fool-hearty!) from
daring to enter.

Big Bad Guys:

a.. Alhoon - these were traitors who stole several Cuttle Commands and set
them against the city. They seek ancient treasures known to exist in the
city. Most are mid-level wizards & psionicists.
b.. Neogi Great Old Ones - Several fled to the city, seeking to escape
fellow neogi and to seize power for themselves. Most are mid-level wizards.
c.. Beholder Elder Orbs - Several large beholders (max hp, special powers)
dwell in the city.
d.. Pirates of Gith - Haunt the "forest" surrounding Mirror, using it as a
convenient hide-out.
e.. Radiant Dragon(s) - at least one powerful radiant dragon haunts the
city (probably several).
f.. Dragons, other - Perhaps "pets" of the nobility that have "gone wild".
g.. Clerics of Loki, Loviatar, Ares, & Set haunt the ruins, picking over
the remains in search of weapons. Perhaps led by a Banelich-style creature?
h.. Yugoloths under command of an ultroloth & several arcanaloths.
i.. Lots of rouge demons & devils.
  j.. Etc.
