Subject: Re: Fire on the Rock of Bral/ in Wildspace
In my campaign, cooking and such are handled with specially design ovens
and metal plates. Many Spaceborn cooks tend to learn just enough magic
to have acces to the heat Metal spell (also allowing them to use wands
as well. No smoke, no air loss, and no ship explosion in the flow.

Then there are the ones such as Blacksmiths, who need much higher
temperatures to create their wares. For this purpose, they often purchase
ceramic tiles bearing an altered version of the Heat Metal spell, which
has permanency added to it. As the spell is only capable of a maximum
amount of heat per tile, the tiles are reusable and temperature can be
adjusted by adding or removing tiles from the furnace. As these furnaces
and tiles tend to be extremely expensive, there are few smiths on places
such as the Rock of Bral or other similar places. (though thier skill
would be much greater, else they'd never be able to pay for their
equipment).

There was mention of a Gnomish Sidewheeler that found a way to "flash-
cook" food in the Flow. Little is known about this method except that it
involved a tindertwig, a striking plate and a sealed Iron box with a
single finger hole. It is said that and enitire Space Hamster could be
prepared in this manner, though the story has yet to be proven, as no
sign of the ship has ever been seen entering any known Sphere. There was
an 8 fingered Minoi who claimed to have at one time tested the
invention, though this too is unproven.

Anyone out there ever do any detailing on fire use in wildspace? By this I
mean both on ships (i.e. cooking, etc) and on the Rock of Bral/Lirak's
Cube/other asteroid cities and bases. Limited atmosphere means smoke is not
a good thing, and on places like the Rock the only thing mentioned is that
setting fires gets the death penalty.
There must be some things that are typical (sort of like Flow Stations
aboard a ship) of day to dealings with fire that are different from the
groundlings, if for no other reason than limited air.
Note: I am working on this as the next of the campaign flavor articles so
much of this (if I can generate enough) will go online. All posters will be
individually credited for their contributions.
