Think of the Flying Dutchman ghost ship when you try to use a ghost helm in a game. > I have to ask, since so many unique helms have been > on the list lately, > what is their appeal? Or am I > just getting the wrong > impression that this is a few DMs each with several > unique helms? I think that one unique helm per crystal sphere is adequate. You have to remember, most unique helms are story driven and maybe even involving a whole campaign session. The majority of the unique helms are not meant to be kept by the PC, but most have to be destroyed, if evil, or must be returned to the original owners. The helms might not survive removal from the ship or damage caused by battles. I am just sharing ideas with other people. Unique helms should be used with moderation and must be a part of the story for all to enjoy. You are right seeing 20 unique helms can be too much in one game or campaign session.
