Subject: Re: Voidstone Accelerator Shot
Once again I present a weapon that is likely as dangerous to the user as
it is to the target... Voidstone Accelerator Shot

Voidstone is a substance from the 3.0 manual of the planes. It is
collapsed negative energy from the Negative Energy Plane. It reacts
with matter like a Sphere of Annihilation and is rumored to be one of
the primary ingredients in their construction.

Voidstone is a solid, unlike a SoA which is just hole in the fabric of
the multiverse, and as such it can be acted upon by things other than
Talismans of the sphere and thinking really hard. Most inportantly for
this article, it can be affected by accelerators, gravity, and
telekinis.

As accelerator shot the Voidstone doesn't really impact with the target
like regular shot does, so much as it passes through whatever its fired
at, leaving a clean little hole. As a precision weapon it is highly
useful, say if you can use a helm seeker or divination to get to get a
precise fix on where the helmsman of a ship is, one shot of this will
take a slice out of the helm (and likely destroy it), the helmsman
(likely killing them), or both (for added fun).
It is also extremely useful in hunting large cosmic creatures such Great
Dreamers, Gamaroids, and the various stellar dragons. A shot through
the brain, and through part of the spine, will likely kill the beast or
at least severely cripple it with brain damage. The shot bipasses
natural armor and even the Great Dreamer's blob of water offers no
protection.

The main danger of using Voidstone is that if it touches something, it
annihilates it, which means it can't be handled physically. However by
using a Hand of the Magi which lets you cast Mages Hand at will a five
pound or less block of the stuff can be kept suspended indefinitly. A
secondary danger is that it is also affected by gravity, meaning that if
you ever drop it, like any other solid, it will fall to the gravity
plane of the ship, and then be gently pushed outwards to the edge of the
air envelope. In doing so it will cut a hole through you ship. If it
slices up any critical supports it is probable that the vessel will
implode.

[Campaign Issues
The main reason the SoA was upgraded to minor artifact from magic item
was the tendency of players to devour planets with them by moving them
to the center of worlds. Voidstone also presents this problem, and
actually more so because you don't have to physically go there, all you
have to do is drop the stuff and it will fall to the center. Cruel DMs
could also have Voidstone unlike a SoA destroy air on contact, adding
further problems. To deal with both of these possible issues my thought
is that since Voidstone forms from the pressure of the negative energy,
that when brought off the plane it begins to deteriorate into regular
negative energy (ie not solid) The shot would then probably have to be
stored in some sort of storage of stasis or some such. ]
