Subject: Re: Military Ranks
Well, this is the military rank structure (officers) of the Kyrnnachtan
Empire of my creation.

Ranks and Insignias:
Supreme Commander of the Emperor's Military (Blue Crystal Rod)
A title rather than a rank, the Supreme Commander answers only to the
Emperor. The senior Imperial Marshal is normally named Supreme Commander, or an
adventuring companion of the Emperor, or, on some occasions, the Heir is Supreme
Commander. The Supreme Commander is presumed to speak with the Emperor's
personal authorization, and therefore is the only person besides the Emperor who
can command the Imperial Marshals.

Imperial Marshal (Dragon and Crown)--Highest rank, only commanded by the
Emperor and the Supreme Commander. Currently, the only Imperial Marshal is
Rhiannon DauIshtar, Supreme Commander of the Emperor's Military and Grand Master of
the Knights Imperius.

Field Marshal (Dragon)--Senior commanders, who handle large forces drawn from
all branches of service. Field Marshals also oversee each of services.
Field Marshals traditionally oversee all operations within a crystal sphere,
although for the time being very few field marshals are available for service.

Admiral:  Sceptre.  Admirals command fleets and oversee ground forces;
admirals are on carriers. An Admiral of Sea Forces commands all the Sea Forces in a
crystal sphere.

General: Orb. General is normally the highest rank achieved by an Army or
Marine commander. They also command groups of ships or divisions. Navy
generals are often assigned to escort or pocket carriers. Sea Forces Generals
command all the fleets on a world.

Commodore: Eagle. Commodores command battlecruisers or divisions. Few
officers in the Sea Forces ever rise above Commodore, commanding the forces of a
particular ocean.

Brigadier: Dolphin. Two brigadiers serve under each army or marine
Commodore. Brigadiers also command dreadnaughts and devastators.

Captain: Horse. Captains command 1000 person units of the marines and army,
destroyers, frigates, escorts, and corvettes and many Sea Forces ships.

Commander: Chalice. Commanders command 500 person units of the Marines and
Army, Corvettes, Vipers, and lampreys.

Colonel: Circle. Colonels command 100 person units of the marines and army,
lampreys and eels.

Major: Crossed swords. Majors command eels, gunboats, strike shuttles, and
fighter squadrons.

Lieutenant: Single sword. Lieutenants command strike shuttles and fighter
squadrons.

Ensign: Mace. Ensigns command fighters.
