Here are the 17 foodstuffs gathered so far as we dine in places as diverse as The White Galleon on Bral and the Brass Bottle in The Rock's Underdark. If there are any further submissions please email them to me offlist. Entries are preceded by the contributor's list name in all caps.(There are seven new listings since the last post) Loki, DM Warriors of the Balance: The Rise of Dukagsh Campaign New Orleans, La LOKI Yaneesh- a favorite Giff dish. It is made from a mixture of bitter herbs which must be buried in moist ground to "cure," for not less than 3 standard months. The resultant substance is used as the base for a thick chutney like sauce served over leaves and noodles. Yaneesh has been found to be universally toxic to all non-Giff species (Sv: Fort DC 22 Dam 1d4 Con, Secondary Dam 1d4 Con) There are tales that members of House Seven Stars have been seen eating Yaneesh and then immediately consuming alchemical antitoxins to counteract it. Balaya- Hadozee nomads make these self contained rations out of birdmeat stuffed with the fruit of the Banya tree and Kintu nuts which is then wrapped in sweet tasting edible leaves. Rot Grubs- considered a delicacy by the Xixchill (who are also immune to them). Usually illegal and very expensive as few wish to transport such creatures. Threesh- Raw whitefish cooked in folded beshtai leaves and served with a sour tasting dipping souce of fermented roe. A favorite of Scalykind throughout WildSpace Scavver Tartar- raw scavver steak (must be extremely fresh) served ina spicy vinegar sauce. A traditional meal for the buccaneer returning safely home from a profitable venture. Cured Starsalmon- dried to a jerkylike consistency, these chewy pink strips are popular among seasoned spacehands for long trips. Spaham- field rations of the Tinker Gnomes. The meat from giant space hamsters is "processed," and extruded into small blocks. Usually found in sealed tin containers with long and improbable receipies inscribed in gnomish on their surfaces. Commonly considered to be the absolute last resort by any other than Tinker Gnomes. Kindor Steaks- much of the meat in most spacers' diets is either Kindori or scavver, with Kindori being prefferred for flavor. When you see a steak of unspecified type at a WildSpace establishment it is most often Kindori. Delphinid Hearts- among the scro delphinid hearts are a delicacy. Served extremely rare with a variety of dipping sauces running the gamut from spicy to sweet or sour. Illithid Spice Elixers- even the mind falyers tire of bland food. These elixers were developed to simply change the taste of the brain being consumed, much like other races use spices. Starfruit- sweet and highly nourishing, the fruit of the starfly plant is deemd good luck by spacers. It is most commonly found amongst the void elves as it is rumored that they grow their unique ships from the same plant. Jettison Stew- the staple of lowtown Bral's poor. BAsically a pot filled with water and whatever else can be found to make a soup. SMU ANONYMOUS Infinity Bread: Only slightly more pallateable than raw infinity vine this bread has an exceptional (seemingly infinite) shelf life. Loaves have been found in perfect condition on ships believed to have been lost for centuries. The bread is relatively easy to make but the entire operation has to be kept dark to prevent vine growth. Fried Zard on a stick: Cooked in a vat of boiling kindori grease fat, fried zard is common to see at celebrations and festivals throughout wildspace. It is tasty, fatty, and completely without nutritional merit. Perfect carnival food. Baby Puffer in garlic sauce: This dish is quite rare, and considered a delicacy. The baby puffer's stinger and venom sac must be removed prior to cooking or the toxin contaminates the dish. This is a fairly difficult process, so there are certain risks taken in eating the dish as the poison is lethal. Mortiss stew: Mortiss meat is tough, so to be edible it must be cooked in a stew for at least 24 hours. After this point it is fairly edible and nutricious, with different flavors depending on what type of substance the mortiss was attatched to. Slinker Meat: Basically the spacer equivalent of chicken. Slinkers breed unbelievably quickly, are capable of living in cramped quarters in large numbers and do not carry diseases. The downside though, is that they also have exceptional metabolisms, consuming vast quanitities of air and food. This problem has been rectified through the use of infinity vine. Slinker farms are almost universally located on asteroids covered in infinity vine. The vine provides both food and air rapidly and free of charge for the prolific slinkers. When harvesting the slinkers, care must be taken so as to prevent bringing live members of either species (slinker or vine) on board the transport ship. Calamari (Krajen or Illithid): Lightly breaded and then usually fried and served with a sprinkling of lemon the tentacle meat of either cephalopod is considered good eating in many parts of Wild Space. The mind flayer dish is exceptionally delicious and also much rarer. In most ports with almost any amount of Illithid representation the mind flayer version is illegal. Some spacers ;however, are willing to break the law, and risk the wrath of the mind flayers, because the food is just that good.
