Here's a couple of traditions I'd think would be implemented in space:

Never approach another ship or a port from directly out of any light
source or in shadow (those who do so are presumed to be pirates,
enemies, or smugglers).

Always approach another ship or a port so that your orientations are
the same (top deck on top relative to each other) so they can see that
you're not preparing a sneak attack.  Also always approach on level (as
defined by the gravity plane) with the other ship, never above or below
(unless you're crossing paths more than 10 hexes away from each
other--well outside the range of common spells and weapons).
