Continued from Part One...
Round 1:
Talus says, "The center group hit the wall first. The left and right
are about fifty feet to the flanks, the wall doesn't stretch enough
to catch them. What do you want me to do?"
Kain calls out to Talus, "How long will the .. wall last? Would we be
.. safer if we had the .. wall at our .. backs. Then we could .. not
be .. surrounded?" Simultaneously he checks his sword is loose in its
scabbard, and raises his crossbow to the high port, waiting.
Dhebun waits quietly in the grass, his sword poised, staying his hand
until the right moment to strike.
Raken says "I will try to calm the beasts! If I am successful, don't
attack, just back up slowly. If not, have at them!" Raken begins
chanting, using the words of his God to calm the beasts.
Holland puts his starwheels back in his belt, slips his fingers into
his sashling and then stretches his hands out, "Hold the wall for a
second, let us know if they start moving to the flank. What are the
flank lizards doing?"
Before Talus can reply another series of caws and screeches comes
from the front, and then talus yells, "The ones on the flanks are
charging in!" A massive gust of wind suddenly blows from above,
flattening the tall grasses to the left and revealing four of the
tall, striped lizards rushing forward...
Freneth moves as quietly as he can toward the rear of the party, and
slightly off to the side, trying to hide in the tall grass.
Allagan turns around to face the oncoming dinos and holds his spear
horizontally out in front of him. One of the dino's rushes him but he
gets the spear leveled in time and the beast impales itself on the
end.
"Nilaroo I shall defend the left flank what! Are you taking the
centre or left?" Ives says as he twirls his blade in an easy motion.
One of the beasts leaps at him and his glaive slashes it across the
abdomen, leaving a wide, deep wound.
"Hoom, center it is," replies Nilaroo as he draws his sword. "Ferric,
do you have the other flank?"
Nilaroo stands in the center by Raken, but no beasts come through the
grass from the front or rear.
Ferric waits with the fletching of his arrow against his cheek, but
only gets off one shot as a creature suddenly bounds out of the high
grasses to the right and leaps at him. His arrow sinks into the
beast's gut, but its rear claws slash and tear at his arms, not
breaking through his leathers, but leaving deep bruises.
Sekeht holds his scimitar ready in his right hand. He stays close
behind Allagan. He takes a deep breath and holds his left palm flat
toward the approaching dinosaur, concentrating.
Leera mutters under her breath to the Cutlass, "Now would be a good
time to start making yourself indispensable."
Suddenly, Leera is enveloped in darkness, a large globe of absolute
black that extends from her about fifteen feet in every direction.
Raken and Nilaroo are also enveloped in the darkness.
The Cutlass says, "How's this then, Lassie?"
Round 2:
Kain raises his crossbow, aims at the nearest creature, and gently
squeezes the trigger. The bolt strikes true, but the beast slams into
kain, knocking him to the ground as it claws and bites at him.
Dhebun waits quietly in the grass, his sword poised, staying his hand
until the right moment to strike.
Holland says, "Drop the wall."
talus yells back, "Aye!"
Holland then waits a second and starts chanting as he throws a small
ball. The ball bursts into flame as it streaks out towards the
lizards, growing larger as it nears the lizards. Once the flaming
ball reaches the lizards it explodes in a large flash of flame and
heat.
As the flames clear two smoking bodies can be seen, and two more
forms are flying from the fray, squawking and smoking.
The grass have incinerated, and smoke is rising as dozens of small
fires continue to burn around the perimeter of scorched devastation
the spell caused.
Freneth changes his weapon to a javelin, and moving as quietly as
possible, rushes forward, and lodges the javelin deep in the neck of
the creature mauling Kain. The creature jerks and spasm then
collapses on top of Kain in a motionless heap.
Allagan fires off a lightning bolt, slaying the beast he skewered and
its onrushing mate behind it as well. Half a dozen small fires start
in the grasses where the bolt passed.
Snarling Ives brings his blade to bear on the dinosaur. The giff's
strength leaves a massive wound on the beast and Ives booms out "Take
that what!" as the dinosaur collapses chirping to the ground as its
life pours from the wound.
Raken sighs and draws his blade.
Ferric uses his bow to fend off his attacker as he draws a dagger
from his belt and hurls it at the beast. Dancing backwards a step he
pulls another dagger from his belt and sends it too spinning at his
reptilian foe. The first dagger sinks into the beasts eye, and the
second takes it in the throat as it rears its head back in pain. It
starts limping away, but collapses after only a couple of steps.
Concentrating, Sekeht thrusts his open palm toward the attacking
dinosaur. The beast turns and flees, chirping in pain.
Leera stays put, a circle of impenetrable darkness about her.
Nilaroo waits for a raptor to appear but it is clear one will not.
Loud squawks can be heard as the remaining creatures flee swiftly in
all directions.
