Just to add on to some of the answers you got about question #2 (I don't think I can add anything to any of the responses to question #1 that isn't redundant), the 2 ed. Monstrous Manual says in the Combat section of the Green slime entry:
This slime cannot attack but is sensitive to vibrations and....
I'm guessing that in addition to the damage a green slime would recieve upon impact, the velocity at which it was launched would somehow affect it as well given its sensitivity. Aside from that it would appear this comment is simply flavor text since the green slime gains no other benefit/disadvantage due to this other than being able to sense its' prey.
