Glue usually causes some alteration in order to hold things together and it could't alter the shell. I'd say yes, but it seems a > might too good. I would say no. The key two questions to my mind are: do you allow them to use other race only objects and how does the crystal helm work. If the helm must be controlled by a thri-kreen mind nothing without a similar mind can control it. If it must draw power from thri-kreen essence in some manner, no other type of essence would work.
