Just picked up Legends and Lairs: Sorcery and Steam. It is a guide for integrating steampunk into your game. The chapter on firearms is fantastic for d20 SJ. It allows for varying levels of sophistication in firearms, several feats and skill that just scream, "Giff!", and excellent essays on how the development of firearms influences things on a clutural level. The other steampunk would be great for doing another Space 1889 crossover, a Gnomish Renaissance (scary!), or a general tech revolution should you choose. All in all it provides a number of cultural tidbits amongst the rules that would be invaluable for DM's like myself who want greater verisimilitude when going from culture to culture. (It also helps to have standardized stats for matchlocks and such handy for those rule reasearchers in the party...) Anyway, jsut got it and thought I would pass along a quick review. For me at least it is going to be very useful. One thing I am considering is using the ruleset to detail Dukagsh, the scro homeworld. If you take a traditional Tolkien view of orcs, they were the ones who "loved intricate devices for causing pain, and things that make lud explosions and lots of smoke" (not quite the Hobbit quote, but close in spirit...) That would also go well with the armor plated Mantis Ships... Loki, DM Warriors of the Balance: The Rise of Dukagsh Campaign New Orleans, La
