See, now the part i found strange is that they say "back to the
roots", but then list a bunch of 2nd ed (and late 2nd ed, for that
matter) settings. Admittedly, they *do* have Blackmoor and Greyhawk
in there, but they also seem to have missed Known World--closest they
come are Hollow World (much later, and really a separate setting) and
Red Steel--which is again a very late addition, and something that
mostly made it into print as part of the Mystara switch-over to AD&D.
While, on the one hand i'll actually give this issue a look (anything
for Blackmoor intrigues me, and i'd like to see how they did Red
Steel in D20 System), something i haven't done since they dropped
Roleplaying Reviews, on the other hand it seems to illustrate their
current emphasis on short lifecycles: they're not putting in much
that'd interest the *real* grognards, because i suspect most Dragon
readers haven't even heard of the old settings, since they seem to
think of Planescape and Birthright as "old". From my perspective,
anything that came out since Players Option is "new" or "recent", and
there's no nostalgia for settings that post-date my playing of D&D
(which pretty much ended ~'94).
