Well, did you hear about them "squashing" the Core Rules CD? I have. At
first they didn't mind, publicly anwyay, because it was a TSR product and
TSR had the right to put it out before WoTC took them over. WoTC said they
planned on changing the rules anyway. But they still were a little peeved
behind the scenes because they thought people were going to copy and paste
the second edition rulebooks and put them online, so people could get free
electronic copies of books like the player's handbook and the dungeon
master's guide. I guess they were scared that would keep new players from
starting playing in 3rd edition, and instead they would start in 2nd edition
which they could get it for free. I used to have a few links to a couple of
sites where some nasty letters WoTC sent to people had been posted up, but
the fear of lawsuits kept most people from putting any 2nd ed. material from
the Core Rules online. Those sites are gone, too.

It's the same argument as the one the music makers and bands like Metallica
(sell outs, they suck since Cliff Burton died, now they see only money)
used. They think the internet is this huge threat to them, and they don't
like products that put too much of their material in electronic format,
because electronic formats can be traded easier. They're paranoid.
Everyone who's ever liked a band, back in the days of cassette tapes, knows
that original tapes were much better than recorded ones. A true Realms fan
would want the original, not a bunch of copied crap. They might use the
copied stuff at first, and through that become familiar with the product,
but that would serve as an advertisement and if the product was original
enough they'd want the whole, original package.

Anyway, no smiley face, I mean it. I liked the entire D&D package much
better when TSR ran it. And as a previous discussion established, this is
an opinion, and it is a relavent opinion because it is related to the topic
of this list. If you don't like my opinion, that is too bad, I still feel
this way. I won't change it if flames are directed my way because of it, I
will just form new opinions that certain people can't tolerate the free
expression of how other people feel.
