He was merely expressing his opinion.  Since when did someone expressing an
opinion you do not share constitute trolling?  I'd rather know what everyone
thinks.  I still use 2nd edition rules, and have never upgraded to 3rd
edition.  The only time I use those rules is when I play Never Winter
Nights.  I'd like to know 3rd edition is worth upgrading to, but I don't see
the point in spending all the money on it right now.  I just take new stuff
and modify it backwards for 2nd edition rules.  It is the imagination and
inventiveness that is important.  That is what makes a game good.  The rules
are just there as a secondary element, used to express what is in the
imagination.  Every different set of people I've played with has used a
different variation of the rules, some like some rules and others like other
rules.  When I was in the military, we really got into the second by second
play of the battle scenes using the segment rules, and using mats and
minatures, etc., so we always knew exactly where everyone was and what they
were doing.  That way we could focus on the fine details of the battles and
what was more important to us.  Other people I've played with didn't care so
much about the minor details of battle and wanted to focus on the overland
and movement rules, or the rules around picking pockets and thievery, and so
on and so on.  Just because some liked some rules and not others didn't mean
they were being trolls when they expressed those feelings.
